Second Edition

The new edition of the Essentials Psychology Stage 2 Workbook differs significantly from
the previous in several ways:

• Increased content - each worksheet begins with a brief, succinct statement of
content, and concludes with a summary.

• The first worksheet in each topic includes a checklist of important terminology.

• Some non-essential material has been deleted and the number of introductory and
exploratory questions has been reduced.

• At the end of each worksheet there are sample exam questions, along with hints as
to how to answer these properly.

• New summaries have been incorporated in response to commonly seen types of
external exam questions - such as ‘strengths and weaknesses of personality theories'.

• Some ideas have been further developed, such as new case studies to illustrate the
methods of assessment of personality.

• In selected areas of the worksheets appear ‘student tips' - practical suggestions
from successful students for learning and remembering the ideas for the exam.

• Answers to all questions, including sample exam questions, are included on a student CD which is encolsed with every workbook.

Several new additions have been included to facilitate the transition for teachers and
students to the requirements of the new Subject Outline (from 2011):

• The contents of all Worksheets has been reviewed to ensure consistency with the
Capabilities and Learning Requirements.

• The first worksheet in each section concludes with a case study ‘Developing Your
Capabilities' to illustrate how that topic addresses the five capabilities.

• Investigation Skills are addressed both in Topic 1 (Worksheets 1-5) and in the new
appendix on writing an investigation report.

• The Levels of Explanation are explicitly addressed, including examples, in the new
appendix (see above).

• The use of the Assessment Design Criteria is illustrated in sample tasks written to
demonstrate how these can be developed to meet the requirements and enable use
of the Performance Standards for grading.

• New terminology has been incorporated.
