Shared Text Study and Basic English Essay Structure

You will be shown how to develop skills in:

  • Reading, understanding and analysing wirtten and visual texts
  • Basic essay writing as required by the markers

 

Session B

  • Wed, Apr 11, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Critical Reading of Written and Visual Texts

(A goldmine for marks) This session will provide a range of strategies to critically analyse techniques used by writers to convey their message to an audience.

 

Session C

  • Thu, Apr 12, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Poetry

You will be shown how to develop skills to:

  • Approach the study of poetry
  • Understand how the techniques of poetry function
  • Write effective responses including essays

 

 

Session D

  • Fri, Apr 13, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Hints for your Individual Study

This session is designed to ensure your IS reflects the quality and effort of your 'critical essay'. There will be tips on:

  • Choice of reading/viewing texts
  • Deconstruction of texts
  • Writing responses based on writers' techniques to provide a basis for an essay question
  • Addressing polished writing issues such as topic(s), requirements, etc.
  • Identify how and why techniques shape reader's responses to texts.

Note: It is essential you bring your texts and journal to this session.
